“Teens with higher consumption of sugary drinks had greater risk of anxiety disorder compared to those who drink less: ” [1] is an inductive Observationally Delusional statement.
Ignorance is a horrible thing to rely on. But it happens in neuroscience all the time. Here is a study conducted by Bournemouth University in the UK that “explored the link between drinking sugar-sweetened beverages — like sodas, energy drinks, sweetened juices, teas and coffee — and anxiety disorders in adolescents between 10 and 19 years old.” [1]
They assume that one leads to the other instead of one is a result of the other. Well they are nutritionists who should have nothing to do with mental process.
“In a meta-analysis published in the Journal of Human Nutrition and Dietetics, U.K. researchers reviewed various studies from 2000 to 2025.” . as quoted from Fox News .. “Teens with a higher consumption of sugary drinks were found to have about a 34% greater risk of having an anxiety disorder compared to those who drank less. Seven out of the nine studies analyzed by the researchers showed a significant positive association between sugary drinks intake and anxiety symptoms.” [1] An assumption based on the field of concentration and not on the brain.
Study co-author Dr. Chloe Casey, a lecturer in nutrition at Bournemouth University stated: “With increasing concern about adolescent nutrition, most public health initiatives have emphasized the physical consequences of poor dietary habits, such as obesity and type 2 diabetes. However, the mental health implications of diet have been under-explored by comparison, particularly for drinks that are energy-dense but low in nutrients.”
That assumes the diet leads to the anxiety. NO IT DOES NOT. The Anxiety leads to the dietary choice. Sugar is comforting. It does NOT make you have anxiety.
“Psychiatric disorders, like anxiety, depression, and compulsive behavior are the same with any creature with a brain; as those conditions are a result of long term memory and acquired from experience. Anxiety is learned anticipation without fulfillment. Depression is fear of pending fulfillment or lack of it. Compulsive behavior is reactionary action based on learned reactions.” [2]
Anxiety has nothing at all to do with what you put into your body. This study is completely flawed and useless.
“The study was based on observational data, which does not prove that drinking sugary beverages directly causes anxiety. There is also not a clear indication of whether sugary drinks cause anxiety or if anxious teens are more inclined to drink them.” [1]
Observational Delusion [3] “has created conditions based on what they look like.” [4]
“‘While we may not be able to confirm at this stage what the direct cause is, this study has identified an unhealthy connection between consumption of sugary drinks and anxiety disorders in young people,’ Casey said.” [1]
It is right to point out the health problems of too much sugar but to lean on your field and assume it means anything is stupid. Especially when you have no clue what you are studying.
“Anxiety disorders in adolescence have risen sharply in recent years, so it is important to identify lifestyle habits that can be changed to reduce the risk of this trend continuing.” [1]
That is inductive logic and likewise stupid.
Yes anxiety disorders and many other mental conditions have increased sharply over recent years. There is a logical reason for that [5] but it has nothing at all to do with what you eat or drink.
If the researchers knew how it worked they would not have assumed the wrong perspecive.
