Sometimes I just have to rant.
A car or a motorized vehicle of your choice is just that. A choice. If you bought a car like liberals think you buy cars you would hate cars. Like liberals do.
If liberals win the auto-battle cars will cease to matter and so will every support business that serves them.
There are two types of people who buy cars. A: The person who choses their car for the experience and thrill of driving it and owning it and B: the person who buys a car to get from point A to point B and doesn’t care about the car. Cars to the type B person are an evil requirement as they would prefer to be taken places rather than drive to them.
History has demonstrated the type B person is very small in number. But that is the target audience of electric self-driving cars. Its no wonder Tesla’s profit fell [0] so much this past year. The ‘newness’ of electric and self-driving is wearing off. The people who want to be taken places are running out. The people who want to drive, who want to experience a car; are starting to wake up.
Not only are electric cars a hassle to fuel (try finding a charging station near you, let alone on a road trip) but they are increasingly blowing up, starting fires and causing damage no insurance company should ever pay for.
Self-driving cars are even worse. Sure, a computer can make a car follow the rules and avoid the objects its rules prohibit and can get you from point A to point B but you won’t enjoy it. Your buying such a vehicle is the novelty of it, not the reason for it.
Self-driving ‘taxis’ are worse. Not only do they put an unlicensed vehicle on the road with no driver to take responsibility, they destroy a business that employs people. And for no reason other than enriching the makers of the self-driving vehicles and the company owning them. There is no enhancement to a driverless car. There is only the loss of the driver.
Cars in this country are far more than transportation. They make up the lives of many people from mechanics who love working on them to the people who love owning and using them. Electric self-driving cars take all of that away. There is no reason to own a specific electric self-driving car unless you just hate cars and need to have someone or something bow to your needs.
the government push for electric cars began as a means of control. the infamous on-off automatic off feature when stopped was intended to sneak a shut off control into transporation. government could bring you to a halt. if a government can mandate purchase of anything there is no freedom. if a government can shut you off there is no freedom. but they tried. Luckily Trump ended it. Democrats enlisted executives of auto manufacturers to build and offer electric cars before there was ever a consumer demand for them. Government was creating the demand with incentives and mandates and newness.
No matter that cars started out being electric and that was ended very quickly by consumers. It isn’t possible for a dictatorial government to control your transportation if your vehicle is not reachable by them.
Luckily the marketplace took control and those stupid auto executives are having to face the consequences.
“Ford’s EV losses have been substantial, with the company reporting a $4.8 billion loss in its electric vehicle division in 2025 and projecting $4 billion to $5.5 billion in losses for 2026. The automaker expects these losses to continue for at least two more years, with a target to reach break-even by 2029.
General Motors is also facing major setbacks, taking a $6 billion charge in Q4 2025 due to scaling back its EV plans, driven by weak demand and supplier contract cancellations. Additional restructuring costs are expected in 2026.
Industry-wide challenges include rapidly declining resale values for EVs, with models losing an average of 58.8% of their value within five years, according to a March 2025 iSeeCars study. Factors include battery degradation concerns, fast technological turnover, and reduced consumer demand after subsidy expirations.
Ford CEO Jim Farley stated, “the customer has spoken,” signaling a strategic pivot toward lower-cost EVs and hybrids, while reducing investment in high-cost electric models. The company is also shifting capital toward higher-margin vehicles like trucks and vans.
Total financial impact across Detroit automakers may exceed $50 billion, with Ford alone taking a $19.5 billion writedown on its EV division. Analysts call this one of the largest capital allocation mistakes in auto industry history.” [1]
It is good to see the failure of stupid.
But you’ll notice not one of the listed companies above is dumping the idiotic idea of making a product VERY FEW PEOPLE WANT. They predict profits in years ahead. Nope. Nothing will change why people buy cars. Nothing. Of course the few liberal climate change indoctrinated useful idiots will continue to think they are doing something for the environment by buying a vehicle that takes far more energy to create than a gasoline powered car does. But they will eventually tire of EV’s when something new comes along. Look a squirrel.
Why share holders permit this is beyond logic. It is nothing but ideology used by tyrants to destroy an industry.
Imagine if electric cars took over.
No reason for new model mechanics just computer and electronic nerds. But need for old gas powered repairs will skyrocket as people hold on to the remaining ones that still run.
“The American auto repair business is a major sector of the economy, with the U.S. automotive service market projected to reach $211.14 billion in 2026, growing at a 5.9% CAGR through 2031. The industry is driven by an aging vehicle fleet—average vehicle age reached 12.6 years in 2024—and high new-vehicle prices, which encourage consumers to maintain rather than replace their cars.” [2]
With more electric on the road this will change. With more electric rejection it will increase but it will be by demand not need or availability and that will drive prices way up.
Electric vehicles require a completely different set of skills to work on. The more there are, the more repair will be needed and the higher the prices will be by that demand. That is, until the consumers catch on and dump the electric cars then that entire segment will collapse. And the auto makers who follow ideology more than shareholder protection will follow.
It is the consequence of rejecting and ignoring the free market. If the days of self-service are over, the desire to purchase will end.
And auto makers deserve what will happen to them.
